MOUZ have won their second match of ESL Pro League Season 11 Europe Stage 2 after taking down FaZe in an exhilarating three-map series.
Finn "karrigan" Andersen’s MOUZ continued their dominance over FaZe, improving their record against Nikola "NiKo" Kovač's squad to five in five series victories as the two squads faced off in a rematch of their clash in the first stage.
The map veto saw the matchup mirror the map selection of the past head-to-head, with the international squads unexpectedly trading each other’s map picks on Nuke and Train with dominant scorelines, contrasting what had been seen from the two European giants in their previous bout. Dust2 proved to be a closer affair but it was MOUZ who emerged victorious after a commanding defensive performance.
MOUZ stamped their mark on the matchup with great dominance on the opening map of Nuke, where the karrigan-led squad stormed to a commanding 13-2 lead on the favoured CT side. A series of unbelievable clutches ensured MOUZ attained the extensive score difference, which included an unexpected last-second defuse from Robin "ropz" Kool. Two additional rounds were all FaZe could muster in the second half as the opening map ended at 16-4, with ropz and David "frozen" Čerňanský concluding their performances with astonishing 2.02 and 1.79 ratings, respectively.
Helvijs "broky" Saukants stepped up to the plate on Train after a muted Nuke showing, pulling off incredible pistol round quad kills in both halves, with the latter featuring a 1v4 clutch. The additional firepower of NiKo and Håvard "rain" Nygaard propelled FaZe to a dominant 11-4 lead on the defence. The two European teams then traded a total of five rounds each as they swapped sides, but the back and forth was unfavourable to MOUZ as FaZe gradually closed out the map 16-9.
Dust2 played host to the decider, where an incredible 1v4 from ropz secured the T side pistol for MOUZ, but it was FaZe who claimed an early 5-1 lead in the half after capitalising on a force buy success. A subsequent period of prosperity from MOUZ allowed karrigan and co. to level the score at 6-6 before conceding the final three rounds to chase a 6-9 deficit at the halfway point.
The pattern of pistol round clutches continued in the second half as yet another broky clutch, this time in a 1v3, put FaZe on 10 rounds. With defeat on the horizon, MOUZ recomposed to lock down a water-tight defence to claim 10 of the next 12 rounds and secure the map 16-12, and the series 2-1.
